I have been successfull with prince nymphs on a somewhat limited basis. Usually bead head prince nymphs in size 18 produce ok in the croton system streams in the early season with heavier water flows and tend to work out better on rainbows and brookies as compared to browns. I was thinking maybee the bead head gives the fly some additional value to catch a trout's attention in heavier current. They are a bit more tedious to tie so i usually just fish a simpler fly instead. The bead head prince nymphs in #18 or a bit larger work very well for largish sunfish and some bass on the reserviors as well, under a strike indicator or madam x and let sit or retreived very very slowly.
The prince nymph has worked well for me on both the Housatonic and Farmington rivers. I usually fish a size 12 or 14 beadhead prince nymph as the top fly in a two fly rig with a red seredipity or a jailbird as the bottom fly. I have caught both browns and rainbows on the prince nymph with this setup. In the Yukon I have caught rainbows up to 20 inches with a size 8 beadhead prince nymph fished alone.
